Plovdiv Medical University is a very popular European destination for many international students of numerous nationalities. The university offers 400 seats on its medicine and dentistry courses in English combined every year.

The university was established in 1945 and offers degrees in both Medicine and Dentistry that are recognised worldwide in countries such as the UK, Europe, USA and more.
Graduates from the Medical University do not have to sit any exams after graduation in order to practice their respective professions.

Medicine is taught in English throughout the entire duration.

Bulgarian language is compulsory to learn during the first two years of studies alongside your medical modules.

  • The first 2 years are non-clinical years and includes the following subjects: Cytology, Histology, Anatomy, Chemistry, Biology, Physiology and Biochemistry.
  • The following 3 years are the Clinical years where you spend more time in the hospitals gaining first-hand experience into life as a physician.
  • In your final year, you will take the State Exams in order to achieve your licence to practice. After successful completion of the exams, you will achieve the professional qualification of Doctor of Medicine (MD) and be awarded a Master’s degree for your hard work.
  • This course is GMC recognised and meets the EU requirements throughout its whole duration. The professors/doctors have long standing experience and you have access to modern facilities aiding your success in the degree.

Dentistry:
Dentistry is taught in English throughout the entire duration.

Entrance Exam:
There is 1 simple entry test in Biology and Chemistry, which must be completed by all students intending to study at this university. If you have performed well in the test, your admission to the university is 100% guaranteed.

Tuition Fees:
The annual tuition fees for Medicine or Dentistry is 8000 Euros. This is payable in two separate instalments to the universities bank account at the beginning of each semester.

Duration:
The duration for Medicine or Dentistry is 6 years. The first 5 years is compromised of lectures, practicals and clinical work. The final year is a clerkship/internship year which must be completed in Bulgaria in order to get your licence.

Living Expenses:
The living expenses in Plovdiv are relatively low. It is common to spend on average as little as 400-500 Euros, including rent, bills, groceries and money for excursions/nights out. Buses are frequent and charge only 1 lev (0.50c) to get you anywhere within the city, a monthly bus pass will only cost around 16 lev (8.00Euro). The majority of students walk as the student district in Plovdiv is quite small and close.
